What can you do?

"No one can do everything but everyone can do something"

I love to hear how people are reaching out in their communities and across the world. I would love for you to share how you "do something" for others - it will give others ideas on how to give back and ways they can be involved in a positive way for others.

When we do presentations about adoption or Two Homes One Heart we find most people just don't know how to help - if we give them ideas or information on ways to get involved they are more than happy to.

Local food banks - In PEI, there is always a need for people to recieve items, stock shelves and hand out monthly groceries to clients

Local Soup Kitchens - in PEI meals are served in Charlottetown Monday - Friday at lunch time and supper time. They are always looking for volunteers to help with this. On the weekends, meals are provided by community groups and churches.

Schools - lots of schools need people to volunteer. Volunteers can help in the library, breakfast programs, reading with children, resource work and more!
In every province there are TONS of great charities that help with a variety of different causes - children, families, animals, schools, diseases, etc...

There are also TONS of great charities set up to help children and families in other countries -
There is NO EXCUSE to be doing nothing!!!

Please share your ideas and your favorite charities and inspire my blog readers!!

Here's an idea that I wish more people did- be a Big Sister/Brother. I have been a Big Sister to my little sister Caitie for 2.5 years. She comes from a difficult family life and has no one to talk to. Her family tried getting her help on talking/getting her feelings out with social workers, etc. but that didn't work for her. I learned quickly that she HATES opening up and bottles all her feelings inside, and have learned the best tactics for her to get her to better discuss what is on her mind, and it has done wonders. She is a new, and much happier, little girl. Many things are still a battle with her, but we are working on it.. and we have a lot of fun in between (going to the park, going shopping- I even took her bra shopping for the first time last year, it was so cute!) She is turning 13 soon and I hope we can maintain our relationship as she goes through highschool (and past that!)
It is a really rewarding experience :)

Tammy,

Just read your blog and this post today... and well as you mentionned already, My husband and I are members of a great organization that works with children in Ethiopia. Its called Canadian Humanitarian... their website is the following..

http://www.canadianhumanitarian.com/

I did two expedtions to Ethiopia with them and have seen how the lives of the children have been changed, it is amazing to say the least.

We held a big event (dinner/auction) with items that we brought back from Ethiopia and will be holding this even every year in November to help raise funds for the children in the program. During the rest of the year as you mentionned, I also started selling t-shirts.

Here is my website for the t-shirts and other information.
